The true test with FB is not if you can get over the initial weirdness of feeling like you are using something not particularly aimed at your demographic, but -

- can you get over the weirdness when droves of people you went to kindergarten with/met once whilst drunk/never met/went to high school with and were sure they couldn't stand you/etc start friending you; and

- can you get over "watching" all the exchanges of affection between your various levels of friends, especially the over-the-top weirdness in some of the third party applications? (as one of my friends put it, "It's such a spectacle. None of the discretion of the poke wars of old. The skullduggery of it. I dearly wanted the extensions I just didn't want it to be such an exhibition."

Anyways.
Worth it as an unfolding social experiment - hold on for the ride.

I am not giving FB another try. Why? I am more and more critically re-thinking all these internet platforms offering me a space to connect with people. Connecting is good, but not on a centralized platform which makes money by exactly knowing who I am (and reselling my behaviour to advertisers and whoever...). I will be back joining these platforms if there are de-centralized platforms which are not owned by one singly company, but by many people. But I guess it will take some time... ;-)
