i’m giving FB another shot. I’m not very happy about it though. As I was telling MK, I feel like someone’s locked me in a 12yr old girls room and won’t let me out and I pretty much hate it. And I’m worried that the 12yr old is going to come back up, see some stranger in her room and start shrieking and then her parents will come up and start yelling at me asking me what the fuck am I doing in their daughters room.
I don’t know if this is going to work.
This is the best advertising website you could possibly imagine for blenders.
I just read Pattern Recognition. I didn’t enjoy it as much as his other books as an action story and I didn’t find it that impressive in terms of the art / language. What I did like is that it reminded me that I have brethren. That was nice.

The true test with FB is not if you can get over the initial weirdness of feeling like you are using something not particularly aimed at your demographic, but -
- can you get over the weirdness when droves of people you went to kindergarten with/met once whilst drunk/never met/went to high school with and were sure they couldn’t stand you/etc start friending you; and
- can you get over “watching” all the exchanges of affection between your various levels of friends, especially the over-the-top weirdness in some of the third party applications? (as one of my friends put it, “It’s such a spectacle. None of the discretion of the poke wars of old. The skullduggery of it. I dearly wanted the extensions I just didn’t want it to be such an exhibition.”
Anyways.
Worth it as an unfolding social experiment - hold on for the ride.

I am not giving FB another try. Why? I am more and more critically re-thinking all these internet platforms offering me a space to connect with people. Connecting is good, but not on a centralized platform which makes money by exactly knowing who I am (and reselling my behaviour to advertisers and whoever…). I will be back joining these platforms if there are de-centralized platforms which are not owned by one singly company, but by many people. But I guess it will take some time… ;-)
