I. Community Wireless Networks 101

Imagine a free wireless networking system that any municipality, company, or group of neighbors could easily set up themselves. This panel addresses the fundamentals of getting community wireless networks off the ground. A great panel for those just getting their feet wet.

* Matt Westervelt, Founder, Seattle Wireless
* Richard MacKinnon, Founder, Austin Wireless
* Michael Maranda, President, Association for Community Networks
* Laura Forlano, Board Member, New York City Wireless

This is fantastic. I feel like that fat bumblebee girl in that video that is miserable all the time and everyone makes fun of her, but at the end of the video she finds a lot of other fat bumblebee kids and they all dance around with big smiles on their faces.

I love being around my people. Matt Westervelt rocks my world. And he’s wearing a the ISF version 1 t-shirt that I gave him last year.

He just gave a great quote about MuniWireless. “MuniWireless: When traffic tickets aren’t enough”.

;-)

Martin and I just did a great 2 minute interview of Jo.

Martin brought all his video gear and he’s been getting video and photo’s since we left. When we’re done he’s going to put together a mini-video of the conference and specifically of our roadtrip.

I’m very excited about meeting Richard from Austin Wireless. In my mind they are the closest thing to ISF. They have 100 hotspots and 40,000 users.
