Going west in Feb

I’m got an invite to CRACIN’s next workshop, in BC. Sweet! I was at the last one in Ottawa and I met a bunch of very interesting people.

“Workshop #3 : Community Networking and Civic Participation

“The development of Canadian digital content is a principal focus of Canadian Heritage policies concerning the New Economy. So far this has been treated at the national level. However, it is increasingly recognized that the development of content-based services by and for local communities can make a valuable contribution to citizenship, cultural identity and civic engagement. This workshop will examine the role that local digital content creation has and can play in building Canadian communities

Research issues: local cultural content creation, community political capabilities

This workshop will be held as part of the 2005 Summit - Weaving Our Community Fabric: Networking From Local to Global”

From an email I received on the cracin list “We are
joining with the Pacific Community Networks Association (PCNA), BC &
Yukon Technical Support Network
, the First Nations Summit (FNS),
Telecentres of the Americas (TAP) and three levels of government, to
produce a ‘must go to’ Canadian community networking event.”

There will be a bunch of other interesting groups / government orgs there. Take a look.

It’s the weekend after the NorthernVoices blogging conference, so I’ll get to go there as well. During the week in between, I’m hoping to hang out with the guys from BCWireless or maybe I’ll try to bug aaron so that he’ll take me out for a beer? My sister lives in Seattle and I’ve never seen visited her there, so I’m hoping that it will be convenient for her to hang out with me for a day or two.

I’m looking forward to this opportunity to network on behalf of ISF and specifically Wifidog. I mean, c’mon, a conference about internet, broadband, *and* local content? If I can’t get some attention for ISF there, then I might as well go back to serving pizza.

And you may meet Michael Gurstein at the CRACIN thing. Say hi from me.

So Mikey, you’re going to come visit me? Email me and we can work out a plan — I would love to see you out west.

Seb - I’ve met Michael, I’m going to ask him to tell me how you guys know each other.

Sarah - Guess that this is a weird way to find out that I’m going to come for my first visit. I was going to tell you on the phone on sunday. It probably will have to be during the week which probably isn’t perfect for you.

That’s okay… hopefully we can still sort something out. I’ll call you this weekend.
