Game research at Concordia
I haven’t been able to post for a few days because I had my last exam but . . . I was at a very interesting meeting on Thursday. Bart Simon, a professor at Concordia, invited me to sit-in on a meeting on computer game research. Present were a PhD from Queensland doing an enthography on Everquest, a student about to propose her thesis on physical space vs. online space for children, a few master’s students and another undergrad. It was very exciting to find some sort of community at Concordia, even if they are not into exactly the same things as me. It’s nice to be able to talk about Castronova and Dibbell and know that others understand you.
PS. I’ll post when the group gets a website.
PPS. The girl I was sitting next to was a level 65 character in EQ! Call me a geek, but I was impressed. She must have so much insight into online social space. And she was pretty cute ;)

re: conversation with (old) friend Kelly from GameCODE. She’s read all of the Taylor papers I recently mentioned. I think this illustrates how much things are in flux (and to me how quickly these things are changing). Not just innapropriate…
